Message From the President—Steve Pearson

This year’s Alumni Game is the second home game of the season, September 15th, versus Arkansas State. We look forward to seeing as many alumni as possible, participating in a spectacular half-time show and renewing friendships. Don’t miss the opportunity to connect with other alums by attending the Friday night dinner and post-game party in addition to the game. Our Friday night dinner continues to grow at Auld Pavilion Ball-room in Antelope Park. One of Lincoln’s finest caterers, Tastefully Yours will cater the meal consisting of chicken, pork, a variety of side dishes, drinks, and dessert. The venue is adjacent to the playground at Antelope Park, making it convenient for alumni with young children. After dinner, we will celebrate the 40th anniversary of women in the band. We will also take the opportunity to hear from faculty from the school of music about the current state of the marching band and the band program at the University of Nebraska.

Our post-game party will be held for the fifth consecutive year at the Apothecary Loft in the Haymarket. For an advance registration of just $5.00 per person, you can join your fellow alums and guests for Runzas, Valentino’s Pizza, sodas, and water. This un-structured event offers opportunities for socializing, eating, relaxing, and watching other games on the flat screen TVs in a comfortable venue.

Please make plans to attend. We look forward to seeing you there!

Greetings, Alumni!

2011 Alumni and Cornhusker Marching Bands

Now that we have the first football season in the B1G under our belt, we’re eager to see and hear even more exciting new things! We haven’t heard yet about full  marching band travel for the fall, but we’ll keep you posted.

As you no doubt already know as it’s the main focus of this newsletter, the Alumni Reunion Weekend will be September 14 & 15 for the Arkansas State game. The game time is 11:00 am so it will be an early start, but that just leaves even more time for fellowship after the game! We have a couple of good ideas for shows that we’re deciding from, and will let you know soon. We’re hoping to see a big turn out, so get those registration forms in, and maybe even recruit a friend who’s not a member of the BAA but should be.

Of course we love to see you any time you’re able to make it to Memorial Stadium. Some other show themes for the season include a tribute to Whitney Houston, the music of the Rolling Stones, our annual patriotic celebration, music from cartoons, and more.

For those of you plugged in to the social media scene, make sure and ‘like’ the UNL Bands page on Facebook, and/or ‘follow’ us on Twitter. As always, keep in touch, and thanks for all your support!

Associate Director of Bands

Director, Cornhusker Marching Band
