Band Key awards are for superlative attendance, commendable demeanor, enthusiastic attitude, extensive contributions in musical and leadership service, and demonstration of the highest personal, musical and supportive behavior to the University of Nebraska Bands program.
The Band Key existed prior to 1940, but was only given to members of the Gamma Lambda Honorary Band Fraternity. Donald Lentz changed the criteria for the award and opened it up to any member of the University of Nebraska Bands.
