2016 Russ Swanson Outstanding Bandsman Award Presented

The Cornhusker Marching Band held their annual banquet at the Cornhusker Hotel the evening of Saturday, January 14th. Tom Kallman, UNL Band Alumni Association Vice President was in attendance to present the award and give a short speech about our organization.

The 2016 award went to Emily Hoffman. Emily is a Senior Music Education Major (flute) from Beatrice. Along with serving as Drum Major for the past two seasons, she’s been a member of the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. She’ll be student teaching in the spring. Congrats, Emily!

image2The award was renamed in 2012 in Russ Swanson’s honor. Russ was a french horn player in the marching band and was a part of the 1941 Rose Bowl Band. He was also a WWII veteran serving on an air bomber crew. He was a charter member of the Band Alumni Association in 1974 and was on the board until a little over a year before he died in 2011. He and his wife were dedicated volunteers for activities of the BAA board.

Cornhusker Marching Band Highlights Concert

It’s show time as the Cornhusker Marching Band Highlights Concert returns to the Lied Center for Performing Arts on December 11, 2016 at 7:30 PM. Come experience the sights and sounds of the Pride of all Nebraska as they perform halftime shows from the 2016 season, their Pregame Spectacular and much more!

Following the concert, the UNL Band Alumni Association, Inc. is hosting a reception for current and alumni members of the Cornhusker Marching Band. Please stop by and congratulation the CMB on a fantastic season.

Hello Band Alumni!

My name Is Joey Regan and I am the treasurer for Kappa Kappa Psi. Every year, we do a band clothing fundraiser, so if you’ve been wanting to get your band clothing items this year, now is your chance! The website to access the order is located at the end of this post. The first round will be from today, September 14 through this Friday, September 16. You will get another chance in a few weeks to order again. There are many items for current members, alumni, and there are more options for parents this year, so be sure to share it with your friends and family!
