New Venue for Alumni weekend Friday picnic!

Registration for the 2017 reunion goes live this weekend! Stay tuned!

There is an exciting new change in store for band alumni attending reunion weekend September 1-2 this fall! We will be moving our Friday night picnic to Blue Blood Brewery located at 925 Robbers Cave Rd in Lincoln, NE, which is off of Nebraska Highway 2, between Pioneers Blvd and Van Dorn Streets.

This exciting new venue will bring us closer to the action, as one of the CMB pep bands plays two sets at Blue Blood every Friday night before home games at 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Alumni attending the Friday dinner will have “front stage” access to the brewery floor for the pep band set at 8:30 p.m.

The dinner will include a buffet of hamburgers, brats, potato salad, baked beans, and cookie/brownie. The cost of the dinner will be $15; soda will be available for $1 and beer for $5 at the bar. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and food will be available at 5:45 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m., we will hold our annual business meeting and hear from the band staff, as they update us on the band program and upcoming season!

Parking will be available in the brewery’s parking lot, the UHaul lot next door, or the parking lot at Van Dorn Park, located to the north of the brewery. Golf carts driven by the brewery staff will be available to pick you up if you do end up parking farther than you wished to, although none of the parking is too far away from the building itself.

All ages are welcome at the picnic! You must preregister as space is somewhat limited. Registration for this event will be included on the registration page, and the link will be available this weekend!

We hope you are able to join us this year!

2016 Russ Swanson Outstanding Bandsman Award Presented

The Cornhusker Marching Band held their annual banquet at the Cornhusker Hotel the evening of Saturday, January 14th. Tom Kallman, UNL Band Alumni Association Vice President was in attendance to present the award and give a short speech about our organization.

The 2016 award went to Emily Hoffman. Emily is a Senior Music Education Major (flute) from Beatrice. Along with serving as Drum Major for the past two seasons, she’s been a member of the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. She’ll be student teaching in the spring. Congrats, Emily!

image2The award was renamed in 2012 in Russ Swanson’s honor. Russ was a french horn player in the marching band and was a part of the 1941 Rose Bowl Band. He was also a WWII veteran serving on an air bomber crew. He was a charter member of the Band Alumni Association in 1974 and was on the board until a little over a year before he died in 2011. He and his wife were dedicated volunteers for activities of the BAA board.

Hello Band Alumni!

My name Is Joey Regan and I am the treasurer for Kappa Kappa Psi. Every year, we do a band clothing fundraiser, so if you’ve been wanting to get your band clothing items this year, now is your chance! The website to access the order is located at the end of this post. The first round will be from today, September 14 through this Friday, September 16. You will get another chance in a few weeks to order again. There are many items for current members, alumni, and there are more options for parents this year, so be sure to share it with your friends and family! The women’s band jackets are back this year as well as a car decal. If you have any questions about anything, feel free to email me at jregan181@gmail.com. Thanks!

**PS: We ask that the marching band jackets are limited to current and former CMB members, so if you are not or have not been a member, please do not purchase one.

2016 Reunion Wrap-Up

Thank you to everyone who attended the 2016 Band Alumni Reunion Weekend! We hope that everyone had a great time, and that even more will attend next year! If you missed this year’s reunion, you missed meeting the recipient of the first Jack R. Snider UNL Band Alumni Association Scholarship, but you can read about it below. Thanks again to all band alums for a great reunion weekend!

Drum major Meghan Coughlin is the first recipient of the Jack R. Snider UNL Band Alumni Association Scholarship. Meghan is a criminology and criminal justice major from Omaha who joined the Cornhusker Marching Band following her positive experience in the marching band at Millard North High School.

The Jack R. Snider UNL Band Alumni Association Scholarship will help Meghan, and future students like her, manage band-related expenses such as uniform dry cleaning, instrument maintenance, marching shoes and the credit hours required for participation in the band. Music majors and non-music majors are eligible for this scholarship.

Your donation to this fund will reward an exceptional band student each year and restate your support of The Pride of All Nebraska. Please make your donation to the Jack R. Snider UNL Band Alumni Association Fund today. (See DONATE NOW button to the right of the screen!)
