UNL Band Alumni Association mourns the loss of one of our founding members, Lynn Alexander. Boyd Lynn Alexander, 66, of Lincoln, passed away November 24, 2014. U. S. Army Colonel, Ret. Attorney at Alexander Law Office, P.L.C.

Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (11-26-14) Lancaster Masonic Lodge #54, A.F. & A.M., 1635 L St.

Michele Lynn Deaton, 53, of Lincoln, passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, November 16, 2014. Michele was born in St. Louis, Mo. and moved to Lincoln with her family in 1972. Michele was a beloved daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, friend, and colleague.

Survived by: Eleanor Deaton (mother); Richard Deaton (father); Randy and Jan Deaton (brother and sister-in-law); Nieces and nephews: Kristin and Jon Simpson, Chris and Cynthia Deaton, Randi Heidtbrink, Rachael and Jack Eliker, Jennifer and Jordan Luke, Jay and Morgan Deaton; 14 great nieces and nephews.

Michele was employed at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the Glenn Korff School of Music for 28 years. She was a member of the First Plymouth Congregational Church Choir for 26 years. Michele was also a member of Sigma Alpha Iota National Music Fraternity.

Michele will be remembered in a private, family service, with a public Glenn Korff School of Music memorial to be held at a future date. Kenneth James Cox, 52, of Gering, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014.

Kenneth was born March 20, 1962, in McCook, to James Cox and LaVerne (McDaniel) Cox. He graduated from Gering High School in 1980 and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

He was a member of Gering United Methodist Church, GHS Harmony, Dorothy Bronson Singers, UNL Cornhusker Marching Band and the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corp.

Survivors include his parents Jim Cox and LaVerne Cox Hudson, as well as his siblings Ray, Valerie and Scott Cox.

Rod passed away on October 1, 2012,  in Bellevue, NE. A trombonist and NU band alum, Rod was a long-time band director in the Bellevue Public School district. Services were held October 5, 2012 in Omaha, NE.

Michael Marsh

Mike Marsh passed away on November 16,2012 in Norfolk, NE. Services were held on November 28, 2012.

M. Allan Casey

(1925-2013) M. Allan Casey passed away on January 27, 2013. He played in the marching and symphonic bands. Services were held on January 31, 2013, in Auburn, NE.

Kathleen Tvrdy

Kathleen passed away on January 26, 2013. Kathleen was a proud NU band alum in the clarinet section. Kathleen taught band at schools in Iowa and Nebraska for many years. Services were held in Lincoln on February 2, 2013.

Kelly McGuire-Erwin

(1972-2012) Kelly passed away on November 18, 2012 in Texas. She was a member of the alto sax section in the UNL Marching Band. Services were held at the Mount Olivet Chapel in Fort Worth, TX.

Harold Holmquist

(1926—2012) Harold passed away on October 17, 2012. He was a member of the UNL drum line and played percussion for many years with the Lincoln Community Concert Band. Services were held November 3, 2012 in Lincoln, NE.

Peter Salter

(1941-2012) Pete passed away on August 25, 2012 in Lincoln, NE. He was a french horn player in the NU band and was a professor of music at Muskingum and Austin Peay. He was very active in theater and was best known as a musician and composer.

Bob Downs

Robert Thomas Downs of Omaha, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha. After graduating from the University of Nebraska, he spent his entire teaching career until retirement in the Millard Public School System. Burial was held on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln. He played clarinet and cymbals in the band. (Omaha World Herald)

George Buckner

George Sylvester Buckner III, 57, formerly of Lincoln, passed away in Phoenix, Arizona on April 10, 2012. Memorial services were held on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at St. Mark’s Methodist Church in Lincoln. George played alto sax and baritone in the band in the 1970’s. He also served on the BAA board of directors. (Lincoln Journal)
