Message From the President—Steve Pearson

Fresno State Helmet
Fresno State

This year’s Alumni Game is the second game of the season, September 10th, versus Fresno State. We look forward to seeing as many alumni as possible, participating in a

spectacular half-time show and renewing friendships.

This year’s weekend will provide several opportunities for fun and camaraderie in addition to the game. Our Friday night dinner has grown every year at Auld Pavilion Ballroom

in Antelope Park. Famous Dave’s will cater the meal for the third straight year. The venue is adjacent to the playground at Antelope Park, making it convenient for alumni with young children. This year’s dinner will feature a program honoring Director Emeritus of the Cornhusker Marching Band, Jack Snider. Jack’s efforts with the CMB contributed to the many traditions and the fine reputation of the band that continue today. If you know Jack, I am sure you will want to attend. If you are a more recent alum, this is an opportunity to learn about the band’s storied past.

Our post-game party will be held for the fourth consecutive year at the Apothecary Loft

in the Haymarket. For an advance registration of just $5.00 per person, you can join

your fellow alums and guests for Runzas, Valentino’s Pizza, sodas, and water. This unstructured event offers opportunities for socializing, eating, relaxing, and watching

other games on the flat screen TVs in a comfortable venue.

Please make plans to attend. Registrations are due by August 26th. We look forward

to seeing you there.

Greetings, Alumni!

We’re all counting down the days until competition in the Big Ten Conference officially begins. We’re so excited about what this means for so many aspects of the University, for sports, academics, and of course for THE BANDS. We haven’t heard yet about marching band travel for the fall, so we don’t know which of these new stadiums will be the first to see the CMB. We’ll keep you posted.

As you no doubt already know, as it’s the main focus of this newsletter, the Alumni Re-union Weekend will be September 9 & 10 for the Fresno State game. Believe it or not, we already have a game time of 6:00 pm (another thing we’re liking about this new conference—we already have eight of twelve kickoff times!). So, it should be a nice, comfortable September evening. This being the day before the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks, we’re planning an appropriate show to mark the occasion. We’re hoping to see a big turn out, so get those registration forms in, and maybe even recruit a friend who’s not a member of the BAA, but should be.

Of course, we love to see you any time you’re able to make it to Memorial Stadium. Some other show themes for the season include a West Side Story show, a tribute to jazz legend Stan Kenton, the music of Earth, Wind & Fire, and more.

For those of you plugged in to the social media scene, make sure and “like” the UNL Bands page on Facebook, and/or “follow” us on Twitter. As always, keep in touch, and thanks for all of your support!
