Remembering Mike Veak

A long-time voice of the Cornhusker Marching Band, Michael H. Veak, 74, Lincoln, passed away June 15, 2017. He held life-time memberships in the UNL Alumni Association and a charter member of the Band Alumni Association. For 30 seasons, His last season as the voice of the Pride of All Nebraska was 2002.

Remembering David Salyards

Salyards, David P. Jul 8, 1955 – Apr 22, 2017 Of Omaha. David Peter Salyards, 61, passed away April 22 following a short illness. A fourth-generation Nebraskan and lifelong resident of Omaha, Dave was born July 8, 1955, to Harry E. Salyards Sr. and Margaret E. (Skow) Salyards. He was a 1973 graduate of Benson High School and a 1978 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where his particular passion was music. A proud member of the Cornhusker Marching Band, he participated in a variety of other music ensembles. Indeed, music became his lifelong avocation; he was arranging a number of original works for keyboard, guitar, percussion and strings at the time of his untimely passing.

Band Alumni Association Charter Member, Rob Clements, fills Legislative Seat

Elmwood banker Rob Clements is the governor’s pick to fill the southeast Nebraska legislative seat left open with the resignation of Bill Kintner of Papillion.

In choosing Clements, Gov. Pete Ricketts bypassed a list of 35 formal applicants in favor of a man he called the “right person” for the job.

Clements was sworn in by Nebraska Chief Justice Mike Heavican immediately after Ricketts announced his appointment during a Monday afternoon press conference at the Capitol.

2017 Reunion Date Set

The Band Alumni Association, Inc.’s reunion weekend will be September 1-2, 2017. The game on Saturday is UNL vs. Arkansas State. More information will be provided as it becomes available later this year.

Jan Deaton to Receive Certificate of Recognition

Band Office Associate Jan Deaton will be presented the Certificate of Recognition for Contributions to Students at a reception on Friday, February 3 in the Centennial Room. The recognition is through the Division of Student Affairs, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Teaching Council and the Parents Association. The recognition is for a faculty or staff member who has made a significant contribution to the lives of a student while at the university.
